WHAT TO EXPECT

TRACKING DAY

We are a fully digital ITB (in the box) recording system using limited amounts of outboard gear to record your material. We capture your performance into our mic’s and DI’s and send that signal to our Focusrite Clarett 8 Pre X pre-amps and through the A-D/D-A converters and then directly into Logic Pro X.

When you are laying down tracks generally you will be hearing an unprocessed signal in your headphones or through the Control Room speakers, This is to eliminate latency that would be created by running plug-ins ( EQ - Compression -Reverb - Delay ) you will also hear the metronome / click track.

EDITING & MIXING

Once tracking for the day has wrapped, all sessions will be saved and the source files will be backed up to an external storage drive. This will then start the editing and general house keeping process for each individual input recorded, listening to and selecting the preferred takes, trimming files, comp swiping parts of performances and working with any timing issues if needed. From here I will begin the general mix process where I will start to dial in all processing for each mic and input and begin to form the landscape of each song. At this stage I will start sending rough mixes for us to talk about and tweak as the mix moves along and until we reach a final mix which can be achieved in a two different ways: 1- in person, in studio or: 2 - via wetransfer or dropbox file sharing accounts.

We use the Hofa 4U+ Project Time plug-in to record and track all editing and mixing time.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Drummers - If you are using one of our house kits, bringing a few of your accessories can make you feel more comfortable and at home. We suggest you bring your kick drum pedal, drum throne, snare drum and cymbals. If you are using a click track getting familiar with your parts and getting conditioned to the song tempos will always prove to be beneficial.

Guitar Players - Extra strings, instrument cables and a quality tuner are a must, a second guitar will also never be regretted.

Bass Players - We use the Tech 21 NYC Sans amp Model GED-2112 no need to move a rig any longer, we got you covered!!

Scratch Tracks - We’ve had great success with recording scratch guitar and scratch vocal to a click track prior to tracking drums, this relieves having all players needing to be on time with the click and not influencing each others timing. Its common for players to pull each other in and out of time when recording together which makes editing from different takes to make one good take extremely difficult. We also generally find that nearly all players re-track they’re initial parts and rarely ever keep those recordings…once we have a solid, in time drum track were off to the races!
